Finally got the Hot tub working
Thanks to Dave's help we finally got the hot tub that Doug's parents gave us about six years ago ready to use. It's been a LONG process! One day in the summer we decided to use the hot tub as a swimming pool and that's when we discovered that it had a broken pipe. Doug cut out the old pipe and got a new pipe from Lynn Remund, (he accidentally cut the pipe behind the broken pipe and had to fix that one also). Dave spent much time leveling the dirt and laying the paving stones to support the tub, then we painted the tub, ordered a new cover, hired a person to hook up the electrical (which took several visits to get that worked out), cleaned out the tub several times, laid more decorative stones to enter the tub and finally filled it up with water. Now we can enjoy it. Marcie especially enjoys having a hot tub.
Tyler re-takes the Law School Entrance Test.
Tyler has been taking a class to prepare him for the LSAT exam. He took it in October and just got his results back. He improved his score by quite a bit! He is now in the process of applying for Law Schools for the Fall. Good luck Tyler.
Carly in Seattle
Carly got 100% on her Dental Hygiene Boards test! Way to go Carly! We feel very blessed that she was able to find a patient that had enough calculous on his teeth. Especially since she found him the very day that they had to leave. They drove all Wed. night, prepared on Thursday had the test on Friday then flew her patient home so that Doug and Carly could enjoy a couple of days in Seattle before they drove home. She is searching for a Dental Hygiene job now, so if anyone has any leads let us know.

Surprise! Our first granddaughter.
Ryan and Mary Ann decided to wait until the birth of their baby to tell us that they were expecting. It would have been a complete surprise, except that Jamie had prepared us. One day when Ryan was visiting, she said "I wouldn't be surprised if you guys just showed up at Christmas time with a new baby." At least we didn't have to wait until then to find out.
Afton Victoria Ahlstrom was born Oct. 11, 2010 (missed 10-10- 10 by one day). She was 5 lbs. 4 ozs. 19 in. They called us and asked us to get on the webcam because Dayton had something he wanted to show us. Then we got to see the sweet dark haired beauty that we weren't even expecting. I can't even begin to imagine how hard that secret was to keep for 9 months!

Birthday celebration for Shane and Carly Sept. 2010
We took Jackson with us to the Ward Campout and he loved playing with sticks, shooting mini-marshmellows from a shooter, and stringing Fruit Loops on a necklace. The following are pictures from one of our family get togethers in the summer 2010
Marcie
Marcie ran cross country for Lehi High School. She injured her hip and had to go to physical therapy, but she still ran in the region race! Both the Lehi girls and the boys are going to state for the first time in years. Two year ago Lehi didn't even have a girl's team, so they have come a long ways.
Marcie and her cousins Joanna and Natalie enjoyed going to the Whiting Reunion together in Aug. 2010
It's fun to be grandparents!

Carly came over to visit today and she is helping me learn more about blogging. I can change my settings now (or at least some of them!) I know how to add a post and a picture. Hurray!
This picture is one of Melinda's senior pictures. She just found out this week that she had been accepted to BYU. She is so excited. She wants to live in Heritage Halls. I can't believe that she will be leaving home soon. Melinda has been doing an interneship at the AmericanFork Hospital and getting lots of experience with what nurses would be expected to do. She is really enjoying it.
